FOOD IS ACTUALLY GOOD YOU KNOW?

In our world of excess and gluttony, we have heaped up for ourselves disease linked to bad eating habits, and started to blame the food. Health foods are promoted at exorbitant prices 😱, and various campaigns tell us to avoid everything from sugar to milk, from eggs to meat. I’ve been there myself, shunning sugar, gluten, lactose and even meat. But, recently, I have discovered a better way…

When I developed consistent, persistent muscle aches about a year ago, I started to look for the cause in my diet. As a diabetic, I was already avoiding sugar to a great extent, but as a huge dairy consumer, I thought it might be the lactose. So I went “lactose free”🐮. It seemed to help initially, but after a while the pain was back and I scrutinised my diet again 🧐.

This time I noticed that my pain was worse after eating anything containing gluten.

Soon I was on a sugar-free, lactose-free, gluten-free diet, avoiding meat because it gave me heartburn… and I was miserable 😆.

I did lose some excess weight and did feel much better….

For a while.🤨

A week ago I decided to do a detox&prayer fast for a few days. On the 3rd day (yes! The third day 😌), I got up knowing I had to break my fast. My family was going to have meet-pies for lunch, and I just knew that I was going to have pies too. I sat down and spontaneously prayed: “I thank you Father for gluten, that it is good and that it will not hurt my body”

I ate, and I was fine.

I suddenly remembered something:

For everything God has created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude 1 Timothy 4:4 AMP

Gratitude. Thanksgiving.

Could it be that it is not the food that is corrupt, but our ways…? As a new creation we need to renew our minds about most things, and food is one of them.

Yes, gluttony and excess of anything will hurt you - the renewed mind also comes with wisdom and discipline 😁- but if we maintain the balance that Creator God has so carefully woven into all of creation, we might just discover that we are just fine…

Since breaking my fast, I have had sandwiches and pizza, dairy and chocolate. Not in excess but in thankfulness. My aches are better and my blood sugar has even started to go down mysteriously…

Could something as simple as thanksgiving be so absolutely vital…? I’ll leave you to chew on that one! 😉
