HOW TO WALK AWAY FROM YOUR PAST

So you’ve repented of that horrific sin and your shameful past, but when it comes to moving on and putting it behind you, you struggle… Today I am going to share a huge Truth with you that has the potential of completely liberating you from your sinful past... IF you make it yours.
The two core issues that keep us from moving on after repentance, are:
difficulty in forgiving oneself
being reminded of our sins by the enemy
In both cases, it is actually the ignorance / disregard of one, very powerful Truth, that is keeping us in bondage. This is how it was revealed to me:
Since I have started learning the value of using the Word as a sword, like Jesus did in the wilderness, I have tried to apply it whenever I suddenly and inexplicably feel miserable and “far away” from God. I use the Word to declare that He never leaves me nor forsakes me, and similar Scriptures, to remind me of His nature and promises. I’ve witnessed how a mere declaration made with conviction can suffice to send the enemy running. Sometimes though, one has to insist and resist the devil a bit longer before he flees, but he always ends up fleeing if you stick with God’s Word.
So, about 3 days ago, I started to hear the enemy whispering lies of worthlessness in my ear and I retaliated with the Sword. However, the devil kept coming back to bug me over a period of 2 days, reminding me of sins that I had committed a long time ago. I kept disciplining my mind so as to not entertain these thoughts, but then suddenly I heard the enemy say: “how would you like it if someone, who knows about your past, would suddenly come to discredit you publicly…”
I have just about had enough, so, to be sure that the enemy didn’t have a foothold, I turned to Father and said:
“Jesus, I need to talk to you about the time when I did that thing…”
Immediately and distinctly I heard Jesus say:
“I don’t know what you are talking about”
I was stunned.
I mean, I know, theologically speaking that He washes away our sin when we repent, but it only hit home now that He LITERALLY resets the counter!
So I said: “But Jesus, what if someone came and brought it up and tried to discredit me? How should I react?”
Jesus answered:”I give you my permission to respond by saying that you don’t know what they are talking about.”
You see, God exists outside of time. If you sincerely repent with the intention to not sin again, forgiving your neighbor as well, then He completely blots out that sin and all record of it. It literally becomes as if it had never happened.
Of course, all sin has consequences, and some have more concrete, lasting consequences than others. Your repentance is not always going to change the reality of that consequence or relieve you from your responsibility toward it (such as a woman falling pregnant after having an affair) Still, it would be stupid to keep beating yourself up for something that the Great God Jehovah had no intention of beating you up about! And since God is great, you can even trust Him to turn for good what the enemy intended for evil! (Gen 50:20) I promise you that even the consequences we perceive as curses, can be turned into blessing if you trust God.
If you want to activate this Truth in your life, and walk away from all past regrets for good, all you need to do is choose to believe it!
I want to invite you to make a simple, yet consistent, choice : to trust God and put your faith in the effectiveness of His Word. This means choosing against dwelling on (thinking about, imagining situations regarding) things contrary to God’s Truth, including your past trespasses: They have to become as non-existant to you as they are for Him!
Lastly, but equally essential, you need to choose to forgive anyone who has ever wronged you. This is a non-negotiable point, but the good news is that there are no emotions involved in the process. You do not need to “feel” forgiving or loving in order to choose to do what God requires. Its a simple step of obedience.
If you have done all of the above, I am here to tell you that Heaven has no record of your sins anymore! Isn’t that good news??
