2 Chronicles 7:14 has been quoted, and misunderstood, a number of times in our country over the past few years . I felt it necessary to share what this verse really means, especially in the light of what God has been revealing to me over the past few months.

« If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. » 2 Chronicles 7:14

I have heard many people say in recent years that what is happening in South Africa is a consequence of her sin, and that it can only be set right if our nation as a whole repents and return to God.

I couldn’t disagree more…

WHAT???!😳

Lol, you heard me. I can’t agree with that supposition because it is not what this scripture is saying. As a matter of fact, I myself have only come to understand it recently and I’ll share the revelation that led me to that in just a second, but let’s just quickly look at the first 9 words of the above scripture:

The 'people' called to repentance, is 'called by God’s name'. It did not, back then, refer to non-believers, it was a specific word for the nation of Israel and, today, it is a specific word for the church of God. HOWEVER, I want to « filter » it even further. Not everyone going to church today can say that they are called by the Name of God. Not that they are not called, because we are all called to know Him. But the word « called» here does not refer to the notion of being beckoned. To explain what it really means, let me use the example of a married woman being called by her husband’s name: it refers to her identity because she has committed herself to that specific person.

We are called by the Name of the Lord if we have agreed to commit ourselves to Him ENTIRELY. Therefore, this verse speaks ONLY to those who have given themselves to God. Sadly, many of these are living lives of double standards.

A few months ago Holy Spirit repeatedly gave me the story of «Gideon and the 300 men» (Judges 7). Initially, 22 000 men were going up to war, but God told Gideon to send those who were afraid home. 10 000 remained. Then God further reduced the number of soldiers to only 300 dedicated ones, instead of thousands of wavering ones. The message that I perceived in my spirit was this:

« Let the negative people depart from RSA and do not focus (for now) on converting the unsaved and backslidden. I will raise up for Myself a remnant who will walk with Me and carry My authority to such an extent that the battle will be won, not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit »

Interesting titbit: God uses numbers in the Bible to carry important spiritual messages. The first mention of the number 300 in the Bible speaks of the number of years that Enoch walked with God before he was taken away (Genesis 5:22). If we apply this spiritual meaning to this number, we see that, when God is saying that He will raise up for Himself « 300 men of valour « in South Africa, it does not mean a literal group of 300 people, but it means a company of people who walk with Him and who He can entrust His plans with.

Another story that surfaced several times over the last few months, was the one of Abraham, when he pleaded on behalf of Sodom (Genesis 18:16-33). Now listen well to what it is God is saying through this portion: He is saying that He reveals His heart and His purposes to his FRIENDS and that those who are His FRIENDS are allowed to discuss the matter with Him (through intercession), but what He whispers to His friends in the Secret Place are not always meant for the ears of the doubters and the unbelievers...

When we share precious words that God had entrusted us with, with the wrong crowd, they will mock it and cause us to doubt because of THEIR unbelief! Remember how Jesus could not perform miracles in his hometown, because of the unbelief of the people? Where unbelief (negativity, fear, doubt) prevails, God’s Kingdom cannot come. But when the ones who are called by His Name unite in faith and keep themselves apart from the notion of unbelief, they are entrusted with such authority that even the general unbelief of the nation will not be a match for their faith in God! It’s a walk-with-God thing, and it’s a unity thing.

My message today to you is this: stop trying to pressure people into returning and repenting and into prayer and fasting. Focus your attention on the « 300 men of valour » that had been handpicked by God for a time such as this. As they rise up and start to introduce God’s Kingdom of peace into our broken country, the others (unbelievers and backsliders) will be impacted too, and they will start returning to God.

If we are but a small number of committed Lovers of God who understands the dynamics of introducing His Kingdom « on earth as is in Heaven », then we have enough authority to CHANGE our nation.

BUT

We have to start by applying 2 Cor 7:14 in our OWN lives BEFORE we can even think about enforcing it on others. 😊
