THERE IS NO BATTLE THAT IS YOURS TO FIGHT

Be it depression, cancer, heartache, infirmity, financial issues, the verdict is the same for you as it had been for King Jehoshaphat:

Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chron 20:15

If you read on from there, you will see that they still had to go down to the war zone and take in their positions, but when it came to fighting the battle, they had to trust God to do it on their behalf.

You see, in EVERY battle we face in our lives we need strategy, but the problem is that we generally follow either our own fallible strategy or one proposed to us by the world. How often do we wait on God to hear HIS strategy?

How often do we waste our energy by running after a bunch of “possible” solutions, instead of using that same energy to prostrate ourselves before God and seek His face and His guidance and HIS solution.

When we do pray about our situation, we often revert to basically asking God to validate our own solutions: “Lord help me to do this here plan of mine or that thing that the doctor has proposed” or “Lord, just give me a sign that my plan is the right one”.

My pastor of days gone by used to say “the devil will give you a sign if you seek your own way more than you seek God’s.”

When we pray, we seldom, if ever, truly listen to hear what God is suggesting. Contrarily to what you may think, God’s suggestions are very easy to distinguish from our own thoughts : generally they don’t make any sense to us!

Like when He told Joshua to walk around Jericho 7 times, how much sense did that make on paper? And when he told Jehoshaphat to have worshipers go before the army and sing praises to His name. Wouldn’t we reason that sneaking up on the enemy in silence would be more appropriate...?!

God’s suggestions often defy human common sense, because of the fact that they precisely require of us that we trust Him completely, entirely and totally And that we CAN NOT rely on ourselves or anybody else to make the plan work.

If you are facing a battle today, I want to encourage you to drop your “weapons” and to go seek God’s face. Go to your Best Friend and have a deep heart to heart. And then take the time to listen to Him: Read the Word. Journal. Write down your dreams. Worship. Do this diligently and He will answer you because the Word says that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.

The day that I realized that my greatest victories came when I was just resting in Him, when I was allowing Him to fight my battle, it changed my whole approach of life. May you make this same discovery - not only will it turn your next battle into an adventure, but it will also turn your greatest trials into your greatest testimonies!
