You know that feeling when you give and give and care and love and suddenly realize that you aren’t getting anything in return...? Why is it that we feel that way and that we even find clever names for it like « compassion fatigue » . Well, the truth is that, deep down inside, we are often hoping for recognition and reward. After all, it’s only normal to expect that, right? We are only human, after all...

Yet, as children of God we were called to move beyond human... to copy our example, Jesus. And what is the example we see? I read « forgive... even 70x 7 » and I see how He constantly forgives and forgives and forgives and forgives... me! He has never told me yet : « you know what? I’m done with forgiving you cause you’ll just never stop sinning ».

I think that sometimes, instead of becoming weary of doing good, we should check our motives. I strongly suspect that, were our motivations for doing good really sincere, we would never grow weary of doing it!

The world has taught us to justify our own actions and that « it’s okay to be selfish ». God challenges us to go beyond that, knowing that there is an unfathomable reward for those who seek to be like, and be one with, God. It is not for the faint hearted.

Psalm 24 gives a name for people who, like Abraham, desire friendship with and closeness to God above all else : they are the Jacob Generation - those who seek the face of God...!

But, just keep in mind that we can’t seek His Face without seeking His heart first...

Let’s check our motives today and seek once again to be fueled by Love and Love alone!
