WHO'S CATCHING WHO...?

Today’s revelation really was a game changer for me. I guess I’ve known it for a while, but somehow the switch just really flipped for the 1st time!

You see, for the last few years I have said of myself that I was actively pursuing God. Indeed, I was! I have spent many hours researching scripture, many more in fervent prayer and have sought to clean my life from iniquity of all kinds, which sometimes demanded huge sacrifices. While all of this was good and even necessary, I somehow knew that I was still missing the mark. I could sense that I was just not coming to that place of breakthrough in my relationship with God that I was so desperately seeking.

Then, tonight I read about God pursuing us and I had a lightbulb moment.... “If God is pursuing ME...then who have I been pursuing...?!” I mean, you can’t chase someone who is chasing you, right? Because you will simply never find him IN FRONT OF you if he is already right behind you! The simple truth is that we need to LET GOD CATCH US!!

We can pursue many things thinking that we are pursuing God. Things such as “hype” (generated spiritual ecstasy). Things such as legalism. It is in our human nature to pursue: half of the time we are pursuing sin!

The thing is, when YOU are the pursuer, it puts YOU in charge. You (not God) decide when, where and how you will pursue. If you think about it, it really sounds quite wrong doesn’t it? And then, when your efforts seem fruitless, it's discouraging. Sometimes to the point of turning away from faith all together. Or we compensate by running after other things (money, drugs, recognition, wrong relationships...) thinking it will fill the void.

The key is to allow God to do the pursuing by moving from STRIVING to SURRENDERING. This means to stop trying too hard and to start waiting on God. To be willing to simply do things His way.

How do we do this in practical terms?

Well, we simply start by having chats with God. You can sit in a quiet place and imagine his presence and talk to Him as you would talk to a friend. You should also listen for His voice in these moments. His voice can be in the form of a prompting in your spirit, a sudden feeling that you should read a particular scripture, it can be a lucid thought that comes to mind in answer of a question you’ve asked, or it can even come in a dream! God communicates with each one of us in a unique way, but to discover what your special connexion with each other sounds like, you will need to go sit with Him. Or hike with him or ride your bike with him... You need to befriend God!

I promise you one thing : God will catch you, if you only give Him the opportunity...!

"For your goodness and love pursue me all the days of my life"

PSALM 23:6 (THE PASSION TRANSLATION)
