Children have such a beautiful capacity to "simply believe" 😌. Most of us, however, have been contaminated by the world of unbelief and doubt that we live in, to such an extent that we have to go "back to faith-school" almost entirely!😕
Before I really get into things, let's just define what faith is NOT:
Faith is NOT a magic spell generated by using the words «in Jesus' name»... 🙄
Faith is NEVER merited (a newborn Christian can have as much faith as a pastor with 40 years experience...), but there are things that we can do to grow in it, excel in it and accelerate it.
There aren't "levels" to pass or steps to follow, so even if I'm giving a kind of outline, I'm not saying "this is the way". It really is an attempt to explain things so as to help those that are struggling (myself included 😬) to define the booby traps and to get up and go places with God!
In Matthew 17:20 Jesus told the disciples that they would accomplish mighty things
"...if you have [living] faith the size of a mustard seed"🌱
Remember that only a few chapters earlier he explained to them that the Kingdom of God could be likened to a mustard seed that grows to become a huge tree (chapter 13). Coïncidence..?
I think not!
You see, the Kingdom of God can only expand on this earth through the deliberate actions of God's children... by FAITH! What the comparison between faith and a mustard seed implies is that faith...must grow. Nobody is born a giant of faith - we have to grow into it, and that is what I want to explore with you today.
We are going to look at this in 4 bite-size parts that can be described as follows:
1) Acquiring faith (you have nothing to plant if you don't have a seed to begin with - you have to get your faith somewhere).
2) Taking action - the first tiny step of faith: choose your soil and plant your seed.
3) Growing your seed - it takes good soil, water, sunlight and constant attention. You faith needs similar maintenance.
4) Maintaining and accelerating: practice makes perfect.
