So you want to start a veggie patch? Well, you'll have nothing to plant if you don't have a seed to begin with!🤨 The same goes for "growing your faith patch", you have to get your faith from somewhere...
The good news according to Romans 12:3, is that we all have a measure of faith to begin with. Romans 12 does go on to explain, however, that this measure of faith does not manifest in every individual in quite the same manner.
6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to use them accordingly: if [someone has the gift of] prophecy, [let him speak a new message from God to His people] in proportion to the faith possessed; 7 if service, in the act of serving; or he who teaches, in the act of teaching; 8 or he who encourages, in the act of encouragement; he who gives, with generosity; he who leads (leaders), with diligence; he who shows mercy [in caring for others] (care takers), with cheerfulness.
This is good news in itself, because for those, like me, who are not born evangelists and are shy of crowds, we can be reassured that it is okay if our faith finds its expression in another way.
For example, I have discovered over the years that I receive prophetic dreams and have a gift for receiving Words of Knowledge. Therefore I participate in Intercession groups on Facebook where I can be of service to the Body. This blends perfectly into my busy work-from-home schedule and fits my personality like a glove! God created me this way - He knew what He was doing and consequently my measure of faith finds its expression in whom I was created to be! That doesn't mean that He will not sometimes challenge me to move out of my comfort zone, but it does mean that I should not allow legalistic believers to bully me into preaching on street corners if this is not part of my calling!
My first point then, is that you already HAVE your seed, but in order to find out what it will look like once it has grown, you'll have to plant it! (We'll talk about that in part II) Chances are that you already have a hunch, simply by knowing your own personality and your natural gifts.
Today I want you to take some time to go sit and think about who you are. God has planted desires in your heart that He wants to use for His glory.
Do you have expressive talents such as artistic or musical capacities? Did you know that God uses art and music as a medium to carry His anointing? That may be your thing!
Do you have an inquisitive mind that loves analysing things? Then the scriptures hold treasures without end for you! There are treasures in there that need to be explored and communicated to fellow believers. Maybe you should start digging into the Word!
Do you have a compassionate heart? Do you love children and all God's creatures? Then you can serve people on a practical level, which is one of the most amazing expressions of faith.
There are endless options - every single one of us has our gift of faith. Now go explore your heart and start defining yours!
