WHY DO WE PLEAD THE BLOOD?

Praying the Blood of Jesus over someone or something is not an « abra cadabra ». It’s as holy an action as the drinking of the cup during communion. We have to honour it, and to honour it we have to understand it.

As a former charismatic (now I’m just a firm believer and a member of God’s universal no-name church 😉) I was taught to plead the blood of Jesus left right and center... I unfortunately did not understand what I was doing, saw few results and started doubting the authenticity and necessity of this action. So I stopped. Many years went by and then Holy Spirit started teaching me on the topic.

Once I have started to plead the Blood again, it took on a whole new meaning to me, and the results are powerful.

Let me cover the topic in 3 sections:

1) What are the roots of this action

2) What does the Bible say about it

3) How do we do it

1) What are the roots of this action

Without going into lots of detail, let’s just glance back at the use of blood in the Old Testament:

- God initiated the blood sacrifice after Adam and Eve’s first tresspass, to atone for their sins

- in Egypt the blood was applied to homes to keep the curse out and the habitants safe

- blood was applied to the tabernacle AND to the priests to cleanse and sanctify them (make them God’s property)

The blood that was used in these exemples were imperfect in nature and temporary in action, because the Perfect Lamb had not yet been sacrificed...and yet its effect was powerful against the work of the enemy. So imagine the potential effect of the Blood of Jesus!!

Remember : everything in the Old Testament is a shadow of things to come. It means that it was set in place to teach us spiritual truths to equip us in our walk with God. Thus, Jesus, by fulfilling the Law, liberated us from the obligation of following the prescriptions if the Law physically, but revealed the fulfilled Law to be of a spiritual nature. So, for example, instead of needing to follow dietary rules, we are to be careful how we feed our spirit (what we read, watch, listen to and the conversations we partake in). Similarly, instead of need to make blood sacrifices, we have access to the Blood of Jesus to atone for our sins, cleanse us, sanctify us and protect us!

2) What does the Bible say

More than we think!

First of all, our foundation is the teachings of the Old Testament, because without understanding the beginning of the story we cant understand the end properly!

Then, we also find that the apostles hinted on the topic, without necessarily going into it in their letters. They probably did teach on it in their day to day ministry, but we simply don’t have a proof of that on record to my knowledge

Examples:

« and to Jesus, the Mediator of a new covenant [uniting God and man], and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks [of mercy], a better and nobler and more gracious message than the blood of Abel [which cried out for vengeance]. »Hebrews 12:24 AMPLIFIED
« Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance. »1 Peter 1:1-2. NIV

The point that many believers miss, is that the Word of God is not limited to the Bible... The Bible states that the world is not big enough to contain the amount of books that it would take to describe Christ’s ministry alone!

Since the Word is alive and active, the Word of God is everything the Holy Spirit reveals to us! Which is why relationship with Him is ESSENTIAL. When He lives in you, it’s like receiving a download of the WHOLE revealed Word!

This said, we need to learn to recognize His voice in order to deciphre the download! To this end the Bible forms the absolute foundation that we should measure all revelation against. If something contradicts the Bible, it is not of God. Yet be careful not to bade your judgement on a verse out of context, whether it is to prove or disprove a revelation. We have to understand the Word as a whole and not rip it apart to suit our needs...!

God also loves to do new things, things that don’t contradict the Word, but that have not been spoken of before... so keep an open mind 😉

3) How do we do it

Applying the blood of Jesus is not an incantation or a ritual, it is a simple prayer we pray in faith because we believe in the power of His Blood!

Don’t be afraid to pray for His blood to cover you, your home or anyone else, because His blood was shed FOR YOU. He freely gives you the right to make use of it when you become His child!

There are no wrong prayers with God, because Holy Spirit intercedes on your behalf. God is moved by the sincerity of your heart, not by the eloquence of your mouth!

Healing, supernatural protection, heavenly favor and peace of mind - these are only some of the things that I have personally experienced as a result of praying the Blood over myself, my family, our home, our car, my workplace and even over my emotions. These prayers were, howeve, birthed from a place of intimate relationship with God where God gives us wisdom, understanding and much grace

. So if you are not yet walking in a living relationship with God, start today!
